Diversity, dialogue and multiculturalism in America

Is there a certain something that you’d like my advice about?

Or maybe you just want me to weigh in on it?

E-mail me at faiqa[at]native-born[dot]com, or just leave it in the comments section.  I’ll respond next week on my blog.

And if you want to remain anonymous, please specify that.

I’m going to do my first vblog, and I need material.

Furthermore, I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel for inspiration here.  Help me out.

    Ummm, what’s a vblog?

  2. yknot says:

Wow,I don’t know where to begin. There are a whole range of things I’d enjoy getting your opinion about! To wit:
    - Coffee or Tea?
    - Should I get my carbueretor rebuilt or buy another (both around the same $)
    - Are most men really that stupid, or is it an act to get you to underestimate them ( a la Columbo )?
    - Should I be putting my $ into stocks or can I do better by flipping items for profit?

I think that’s enough for now, I will look forward to your perspective!

I’m torn between the desire to help you out here and give you some genuine questions, or to try and be more offensive than Avitable.

  4. Avitable says:

    Okay, here you go:

How can somebody be as cool as you? Is it a combination of proper attire, sufficient time spent on preparing makeup and hair, and attitude, or are there other secret tricks that one must know?

  5. whall says:

    Do you play video games?

    Do you play video games?

  7. Miss Britt says:

When are you going to teach me to cook Indian?

  8. Hockeymandad says:

You could do that post idea I had. You had the list of things you’re too old to do, you could do a list of things you’re too old to do but do it anyway because it makes you happy. I’ll probably never write it…

  9. Slyde says:

    ok, here goes…

I’ve noticed that in the past 3 months, the number of commentors on my site have gone way down. Probably about a third of what it was.

What’s going on? arent i every bit as awesome NOW as i was a year ago? Whats wrong with people?

  10. Deepa Agrawal says:

How did you become such a good writer? I would love to know if you could share it with everybody :)

  11. Sybil Law says:

I always suck at this, because I never really have questions. I usually answer my own, or, you know – time does it for me.
I think you should vlog you making some delicious Indian food, as Britt said! YUM.

  12. yknot says:

OK, I’ve had a couple of hours to go do stuff & now I’m ready for more! I didn’t know you rocked in Italian cooking! I subscribe to cookingwithalia on Youtube & have made several Moraccan dishes as a result.

    Questions:

-What is considered a nice gift for a 1 year old boy? My friends’ child is coming up on his 1st birthday & I’d like to get something that either he or his parents appreciate. In truth I thought: $100. savings bond but as a man, I don’t know this stuff!

    -Style or Substance?

-What is your opinion of Left-handed people? Do you have one?

    • Courtney says:

      @yknot,

Does she have a left hand or does she have a left-handed person? (like, in the closet or under the bed? Or one who makes her kids their lunches?

      • yknot says:

@Courtney, I was asking her Opinion, in general. We have never met(I came close at Blogher, but alas, it was not to be) so I have No idea if she is Left-handed. I’m sure she knows lefty’s but I wanted an opinion, if she had one.

Clearly though I should ask about cooking as I see several folks begging for reciepes.

  13. J from Ireland says:

    Indian food recipes please!!
Also, what are the best restaurants in Orlando for real American food not just burgers, steak and fries??
I imagine you are really good at giving advice, what with you being so wise and Yoda-like.

  14. Lacy says:

How did you and your husband meet?

Tell me about your favorite birthday. Were you a child, adult, was it for you or someone else? What made it special in your mind?

If you could do one thing and no one would know you had done it, what would you do?

Is there any skill that you wish you could learn but haven’t been able to yet?

  15. Poppy says:

Can you provide recipes for your top 3 favorite savory foods/meals to make for your family? Yes, I do know this means you’ll be suggesting vegetarian foods, and that is exactly what I want. I love meat, but I honestly don’t eat much of it at home, and want to cook really yummy stuff. You make really yummy food, and I wanna know how to make it. Could you also include your rice recipe? Was it coriander? Any saffron? Jasmine rice? I need to to know! Thanks!!!!! :)

  16. tariq says:

    - what are your top three destination/vacation choices for our 10 year? should we just put Y and N in a stroller and do the silk road trip?
    - i have my ideas, but since we are asking for your advice– what is the ideal gift to give to your wife for a 10 year anniversary? :)
    - are you sure you want rain gutters installed on the house?
    - don’t we have footage from Saudi for your first vblog? Or you could wait until our trip to Andersonville?
    - do you think a tomato screams in agony when it is pulled from the plant?
    - exam prep– what does this mean: À cœur vaillant rien d’impossible.

  17. Allyson says:

How do I balance playing with my three year old, cleaning my house, running errands, and being on time to pick up my five year old from school? So far, either my house is a mess, or my kids are disappointed.

  18. Allyson says:

check out the beat while the DJ revolves it. Ice, Ice…

  19. B.E. Earl says:

Every time I come here to comment on this, all I can think of are really offensive jokes.

I’ll spare you the gory details.

  20. Shelli says:

I have a problem or really just something I’m struggling with, but it makes me look selfish and bitchy so I don’t know if I can voice (write) it out loud. Hmmm…

  21. Jason says:

Oh, I can’t wait! I am going to go think of a question right now!

  22. VL says:

I heard you speak at BlogHer, and your post “Welcome to American” is fantastic. We’re using it this week in our 8th grade civics classes in Northern Virginia to help our kiddos with their understanding of citizenship. Your story (and your husband’s) are both stories MANY of our students can relate too. I’m a newish reader of your blog, so forgive me if you’ve already covered this, but is there a part two? Something that would help my students learn a little bit more about this process of “naturalization?” And thanks so much.

  23. Loukia says:

Can we go out for a drink so I can tell you all my problems? I think that would be way more fun!

Okay. How about… how do you get rid of mommy guilt when you leave your children for a day or two?

  24. Dave2 says:

I’d have to agree that a video blog entry on cooking would be fantastic! Eggplant bharta could be your first episode! :-)

I’m most curious about the places you’ve been, the traveling you’ve done, and the interesting places you’ve seen. Got any travel tales to share?
