You Are My Sunshine

I walk through sunshine and warmth the majority of my days.

But light does not exist without dark. Shadow creeps into everyone’s life. Funny how no matter how many times a shadow shows up in my sunny day, I’m always surprised by it. I will never get used to the shadows.

This stubborn refusal to become accustomed to shadow can be squarely blamed upon you.

You wrap me in the warmth of your serenity. You believe in me when I forget. You will not let my honest heart or my compassionate soul go unnoticed. You ensure that even in the chill of the shadow, I know the truth about myself.  You are my friends, the shadow chasers.

This Sunday afternoon, a friend braved the highway to have lunch with me. And while we sipped summer drinks in the surprising chill of a Florida winter, she reminded me that people know the truth of who I am. She metaphorically held my hand and her strong heart whispered this truth to me, even as you endure the chill of this shadow, you are a sun-walker.

And, miraculously, the shadow was gone.

For Courtney.

Should I have gone with Another Saturday Night?  For some reason, I can’t find a recent version of that one.  Ha ha.

    I’ve never felt so humble…..

I’m not sure that I’m deserving of this but it made my entire day to read it.

    Thank you Faiqa

@Courtney, Of course, you’re deserving. The best thing about yesterday was that you didn’t make a big production of the fact that you came over… the very fact that it was not a big deal to you made it a big deal to me.

@Robin, It is. Everyone deserves to be treated that way.

If saying “the bomb” in your last post didn’t get the attention of Homeland Security, maybe posting videos of folks on the no-fly list might (assuming Cat is still on the no-fly).

@delmer, Hahahaha — damn that Cat Stevens and his peace-lovin’ rock and roll jihad.

As much as it sucks to be shocked by the shadows every. damn. time. – I am so, so glad you are a sun-walker.

@SciFi Dad, Thanks, I’m over it, though. So, you know, I’ll be commenting on those blog posts a bit more often. ;)

Here’s a fun tidbit about that video: I’m playing the bass. You can see me at 0:58.

And of course, what an awesome post. As usual. You rule. :-)

Better to be surprised by the shadows than to live in them.
