It’s Saturday. You know what that means, right? Native Love Saturday!!
I love parenting blogs written by dads for a variety of reasons. Most notably, for the perspective that they offer. While Tariq and I discuss our child and parenting strategies fairly often, I don’t think I ever give him the chance to (or perhaps he doesn’t take it!) to explain exactly what being a father feels like or what it means to him.
SciFi Dad, the illustrious daddy behind Tales From the Dad Side, gives me food for thought and prompts me to ponder, well, the dad’s side of things.
I have learned that some fathers, at least the good ones, are not at all bashful about praising their children to others (at least on the Internet. SciFi Dad loves his kids, and when he talks about his daughter, I hear my husband’s voice saying those words about our daughter.
Tales From the Dad Side, in a strange way, reminds me of how lucky our daughter is to have the daddy she does. There’s a lot of self reflection on the blog, as well. I find that refreshing in light of the fact that most people spend most of their time simply on self justification when it comes to parenting.
I feel like I can’t mention SciFi Dad without mentioning his lovely wife MTM, either. MTM has a great blog called the Circle of Life and the content is stellar. I am definitely more of a lurker there, but, mostly because I’m too busy trying to find information on some cool new parenting trick or gadget she’s writing about at the moment.
Knowing that these two people are raising children together makes me feel better about the future of my own kids.
One of my favorite things about SciFi Dad’s blog is that he asks a poignant question at the end of each of his posts. He asks people what they think. Almost every single time.
Usually, people don’t want to hear about your kids, they just want to talk about theirs. I’ve always found that this question at the end of most of the Tales from the Dad’s Side posts was refreshing and, well, a very generous act of communication.
So, anyway, that’s why… you guessed it, this Saturday is for loving Tales From the Dad Side.
Attention Recipient of Native Love Saturday: You do not have to post this award. It’s not about me. It’s about you. If you do post about it, though, please link back to me. Also? You can use this smaller version below to put in your side bar if you so choose. Admit it. Every single one of you wants one.

The fact he maintained a Star Wars theme through adulthood says it all for me.
The Force is strong with that one.
Good pick Padawan.

But have you seen his porn review blog where he writes reviews of hard-core pornography? Now that’s some writing!

I have yet to get to his blog, but based on your review (and because I trust your opinion), I am going there right now!

I am humbled (and a little frustrated with Adam… that blog wasn’t for sharing, damnit) by your words. Thank you, Faiqa, for lying so well.

The only stumbling block I’ve ever had with SciFi Dad’s blog is that he’s a prolific writer, and my feedreader often gets a large backlog of unread SFD posts. This causes me to read SFD, Backpacking Dad, and Avitable in 1-2 hour “catch-up sessions.”
I really like reading about Munchkin and Buddy, and a daddy’s point of view. The absolute best part is his excellent choice in, and variety of, music selections for his posts.

I will check out his blog, I’d say nice things about my kids too but they are all in the six foot range and look down on my 5 foot 3 frame and mention the bald spot!

SFD is one of my favorite dad-bloggers. He’s how I found your blog, actually.
I love to read his thoughts and experiences on parenting and I, too, appreciate how well he engages his readers.
