Diversity, dialogue and multiculturalism in America

If you’re a blogger…

Have you noticed I’m not commenting on your blog as regularly as before?

My feed reader is bloated.  If I comment on every post I read, well, I won’t get to read every post.  Which I want to.

Because, in the end, knowing what you’re thinking about, is far more important to me than telling you what I think about what you’re thinking about…

Enter Native Love Saturday. (Tabla roll, please).

Each week, I’m going to choose one blog from my feed reader.  Just one.  And proceed to tell you why I love it.

This week?

Poppy Cedes

I love to read material that centers on politics, the news, social issues, parenting, and writing.

Poppy doesn’t write about any of these things, though.

Poppy lives in New York City, has cats and is the object of Awesomeness’ affection.  With good reason.

Her blog documents the progress of her transition from novice New Yorker to slick city girl.  Poppy’s blog transports me.  It takes me to a place I’ve never been.  A place of new beginning, adventure and the complete unknown.  She’s fierce, yet adorable.  She’s interesting, yet brings up the details in the everyday that most of us gloss over.

Poppy is one of the reasons I love reading blogs so much.  I don’t think I would have ever taken the time to get to know a Poppy if it weren’t for the Internet.

I hardly comment on Poppy’s blog because she’s one of those rare individuals who puts stuff out there and I feel like I have nothing to add.  I’m too preoccupied with being added to as I read about her life and thoughts, and cats.

And that’s why I love Poppy.

** Disclosure about Native Love Saturday: You do not have to post this award.  It’s not about me.  It’s about you.  If you do post about it, though,  please link back to me.  Special thanks to Avitable for designing the award for me in the first place.  No, he didn’t come up with the graphic.  It’s late 17th century(?) Mughal art.  It’s actually a harem.  Snicker. Also?  You can also use this smaller version below to put in your side bar if you so choose.  Admit it.  Every single one of you wants one.

  1. Poppy says:

I am speechlessly honored to be the first in this series, and even more so honored that you think these things of me. Consider me hugging you firmly, but not so hard that I crush your tummy. :D

And I bet Dawg is VERY jealous you chose me. hehehehehehehehehehe

  2. [...] – I am uploading museum photos but Faiqa posted this really sweet post about me so I’ve published my post since it seemed to capture the essence of her words about me. [...]

  3. NYCWD says:

    Wait.

    Did you just objectify me?

    I feel so much like… like… like a woman.

    Please pass the yogurt.

    ;)

  4. Dave2 says:

Everybody loves Poppy. Everybody. Even me!

  5. shiny says:

The Poppy is well-deserving of being your first recipient. Congrats!

Interestingly enough, the font you used works so that if you were to turn the image upside-down, the Hebrew lettering spells out “I need to capture a tuna.”

  6. Avitable says:

How much actual “love” comes with said “Native Love” award, hm?

  7. Sybil Law says:

Yay, Poppy!!! And nice job, Avitable!
I love the idea for this award. Shouldn’t people wait until you give them one to put it in their sidebar, though?! I mean, I have Native Love for you (duh), but…
I always overthink even the most silly things!
    :P

  8. Faiqa says:

    @Poppy: I call it like I see, sweetheart. ;)

@NYCWD: Heh. Techinically, I said that Poppy was the “object” of YOUR affection. So, the social order remains intact.

    @Dave2: She makes it easy.

@shiny: Hahaha, that made me snort the coffee I’m drinking up my nose.

@Avitable: As much as Dawg will let me get away with?

@ Sybil Law:No, you have to get the award to put it in your side bar, I need to go check and make sure I was clear on that. I need to keep my elite status in check here….

  9. Crys says:

poppy is the bombdiggity without question. if i were gay i’d totally fight Dawg for her.

  10. HoosierGirl says:

I 100% agree with your first choice – Poppy is awesome! My only question is, am I in your feedreader? Cause I want some love someday, too.

    Great Idea, BTW.
    J.

  11. I’m having the same problem keeping up with my feed reader. Damn work and stuff!

I spent today just catching up. Sorry I haven’t been by as much! xoxo

  12. Sarah says:

I have been like the WORST commenter of blogs ever this semester. And I only have something like 40 blogs in my reader.

And Poppy is teh awesomeness! Oh yes.

  13. Hilly says:

Awww, this is an amazing idea Faiqa! Poppy does deserve the love, too. :)

  14. golfwidow says:

I come not to ask for an award but to bestow one.

Ho gettato un dardo a ti.

Which means “I threw a dart at you.”

    See http://www.golfwidow.net/archives/012227.html .

  15. Miss Britt says:

    What an awesome idea!

    And yay for Poppy!!

  16. Faiqa says:

@ Crys: Agreed! Though I’d fight Dawg for a 2 day old Mentos. Just for the fun of it.

@HoosierGirl: Of course you are. :)

@Elizabeth Kaylene: No problem, thanks for stopping by.

@Sarah: School is more important than commenting on blogs. (This public service announcement brought to you by the Foundation for School Is More Important than Commenting Center).

    @Hilly: Thanks!

@golfwidow: Awww. Thanks, how cool is that!! In Eye-talian, too.

@Miss Britt: I’m known for awesome ideas, you know…superior ones, even. ;)

  17. Jason says:

Hey you. I’m faced with the same problem…so many great blogs, so little time. I’ve never read Poppy before. Great. Another awesome blog to read.

You seem to be in pretty thick with the Avitable crowd! That must be how you and Pumpkin Delight found each other.

I used to read Avitable all the time but then I lost all of my links and somehow he fell through the cracks, so thanks for the reminder here.

    And how….did I ever….let Avitable….fall through the cracks?

  18. Avitable says:

    I’m so disappointed, Jason. :)

  19. Faiqa says:

@Jason: Avitable and I went to high school together. I was awesome and cool, and he was in the chess club. My, how the tables have turned! He’s now my Internet guru. LOL. BTW, you are definitely one of the bloggers I read religiously… even though I don’t comment as often as I’d like. :)

  20. Avitable says:

I was NOT in the chess club. Bitch!

  21. Faiqa says:

Hahahaha! That’s riiiight, they said you weren’t cool enough to join them.

  22. Avitable says:

They were too nerdy even for myself.

  23. Jason says:

I’m sorry Avitable. I feel terrible. I’m re-adding you to my feeder right now.

I’m sure it has been absolutely devastating living without me.

  24. That’s awesome Faiqa! Congrats to Poppy – well deserved!

  25. love the idea! of course your awesome self would come up with this. yay you!

and congrats to poppy for being the first recipient!!
