Daydream Believer
A friend on Facebook reminded me that when we were kids we used to watch “The Monkees” religiously every weekend.
Though the show was produced in the 1960s, it experienced something of a revival in the 80s on MTV. I know the Monkees were a Beatles knock off, and didn’t play their own instruments until the 70s, but I loved them, anyway.
And I love this song. It’s still one of my favorites.
Actually? I. Loved. Davy. Jones.

That’s fantastic! I haven’t heard any of the Monkees’ stuff in so long. I remember watching them as a kid in the 80s too

Ya know, he’s performing at the Epcot Flower and Garden festival this year… The first weekend (March 20-22), three shows a night… if you’re feeling nostalgic!
I actually saw them in concert in the 80′s – it was okay. But I loved the Monkees as a kid, too – only, in the 70′s. (Thanks for making me feel so OLD!)
I loved when Davy Jones was on “The Brady Bunch”. Which I watched in reruns… Cindy Brady is SEVERAL years older than I am. I’m just sayin’.
Anyway, this is a great song!

@ Avitable: This is one of those things where the thing that one likes is SO dorky it makes one COOL. You wouldn’t know what I’m talking about since you have historically fallen short and just stopped at “SO dorky”…

I totally saw them in concert, too. At a racetrack with Herman’s Hermits and a couple other bands of that era. Quite a concert.
Oh, I loved the Monkees, too! I remember they were on Nickelodeon for a while and I was glued to the TV every afternoon watching them. And I think my parents shook their heads a lot. Between The Monkees, She-Ra, Thundercats, Star Trek re-runs, and Doctor Who, my parents were ready to put me in a home for special kids.

While I can’t say I loved The Monkees in the 80′s, what with having just been born and all, I remember singing their songs when I was six or so. I still love their music – I definitely fall into the camp of “SO Dorky” and falling just short of “it makes one COOL”.
Due to my father’s influence, I listen to a lot of stuff from the 50s, 60s and 70s. The 80s were just the next logical step. But ask me to name three current top 40 hits and I couldn’t tell you to save my life, unless you asked me about country music.
Okay, maybe I fall more than “just short” of COOL.
@Ren: Olivia Newton John!! Remember “Physical”? Of course you do. Anyway, I was about six when it came around and I loved it. I used to sing that song all the time. It wasn’t until almost a decade later that I realized why my parents looked like they were going to be physically ill the whole time I sang it. I guess they figured if they had to ask me to stop they’d have to tell me why.

I used to LOVE The Monkees when I was a kid.
my very first without adults concert was the monkees reunion tour in the 80′s. it was awesome simply because i also had a massive crush on davy. he is just such a cute little thing. i wanna pick him up and put him in a backpack like yoda.
If you can’t catch me, I’m sure you can come up with quite a few intelligent insults to hurl at me. Then, while I’m busy trying to decide if it was a compliment or not, you can tackle me.
I’m sure you can find a few people who would be more than willing to hold me down while you whack me with your cane.
Ha, ha, ha! I remember that comeback. That is so funny. I never found any of them that attractive. They were all a little bit too funny looking, but if I were to have to choose one, it would be the tall, dark, and dorky one. The episodes were a hoot though, weren’t they?
I enjoyed the Monkees during that comeback and that was also my fave song. Although I watched for the music, not Davy.
They were on local TV on weekday afternoons in the 70s in my hometown.
I always liked Mike. But I’m a guy and I thought big sideburns were impressive bad then.

New here.:) I’m from Canada and they used to show the Monkees here too, along with the Monkees and Happy Days. Weird how cyclical some shows are.
You should ask me tonight about the time I got to hang out with Mickey Dolenz.
I remember Saturday mornings in the UK, we watched a show that featured The Banana Splits, Arabian Knights cartoon and The Monkees, I thought they were very cool.
My wife many moons ago used to live a few doors down from Mickey Dolenz and he signed a copy of one of their albums for her.
